Football Commentary
This is probably the longest running show at HRI. Football commentary from Portman Road started in 1971, and is still going strong today.
HRI broadcasts full commentary on all first team home games that Ipswich Town play at Portman Road.
The commentators that can be heard on air include Terry Betts, Tim Ward, Adrian Ward & Simon Bartlett, who have become well known faces around the Media Centre at Portman Road.

Left to Right: Adrian Ward, Gemma G, Tim Ward, Simon Bartlett, Terry Betts & Nigel Taylor
They will describe the game with only a (tiny) hint of bias towards a team they have all supported for many a long year. The presentation can include requests from around the wards and an update on the other key games of the day from the senior leagues in the country. From time to time guest presenters can be heard along with a few items of interest associated with the visiting team. A particular treat is to play a record that is in someway linked to the opposition – however tenuously! The commentary team will usually offer their take on the preceding week or so at Ipswich Town – there is never a dull moment!
The football programme usually starts at 2.30pm and 7.30pm for Saturday and mid week games respectively but from time to time abnormal kick off times result in a few changes. The programme is driven and produced in the warmth of the HRI studio by Gemma G and Nigel Taylor whilst the lads suffer the bitter east wind and winter cold at Portman Road. It is a tough life for some!
If you know someone in hospital who will most definately be listening to home Ipswich Town games why don’t you surprise them by requesting a song especially for the avid Town fan before the match or at half time. Just click Make a Request or if you’re a patient you can dial *800, a free number, from your Hospedia bedside phone handset.
